Masters Swimming in Derbyshire

Masters are swimmers aged 25 and above (although many competitions now include the 18 to 24 year age group).

Masters swimming is for both competitive and fitness swimmers, and in Derbyshire many Clubs now accommodate Masters swimmers either swimming in a dedicated Masters Squad or sharing a pool with another squad. It is a great way of either continuing swimming after your age group years or for those who started swimming later in life to develop themselves in a sport, which has no age limits.

Masters swimming is organised in age groups from 18 to 24, 25 to 29, 30 to 34 and upwards in five year age groups with no upper limit. Records have been established right up to the 100-104 age group.

It is a great way to get fit, meet people and be involved in competition.

There are competitions staged locally by Rykneld (Clay Cross) in January and Etwall Eagles (Derby) in November. The Midland Championships are held annually in Leamington Spa, with the Nationals being staged at Ponds Forge in October (The Long Course Championships are staged in June at the Aquatics Centre in Manchester).  Bi-annual European and World Championships are also staged.

A number of Derbyshire swimmers made the trip to Perth for the 2008 World Championships and are currently training for the 2009 European’s in Cadiz.

Each year a Derbyshire team is selected to take part in the Inter-Counties* competition which is swam in regions with an overall national champion declared through the times recorded on the day.

Details on clubs which offer Master opportunities can be found via the club links through this website.
